Center Street Fourth of July

On the bridge at Center Street
This past Fourth of July
A motley crew and me and you
All staring at the sky
Waitin’ for the light show
The city would supply
It was dark Marias, warm tortillas,
Mom and apple pie

Yellow, black, and brown folk
And collars blue and white
Old gray hairs in wheelchairs
Kids everywhere in sight
Shoulder to shoulder
Everything all right
Glad to be the brave and free
In the firecracker night

Sweet old glory
My country t’is of thee
We sing your story
From sea to shining sea
Pilgrims progress
Parades and ice cold beer
We’re all Americans out here

So thank for Patrick Henry
Thanks for Betsy Ross
Thanks for John and George and Ben
And barbecue sauce
Those drums just keep on drummin’
T’is music to my ear
We’re each and every one of us
Americans out here
